¿Por qué Zevon?

Despúes de haber hecho una lista con todos los músicos que me habría gustado ver en directo y que no podré hacerlo porque la han palmao, me quedo con Warren Zevon. Direis ¿y Lennon, y Cash, y James Brown, y Muddy Waters, y Jimi Hendrix, y Janis Joplin, y Gram Parsons, y Buddy Holly?

Pues no.

Prefiero a Warren Zevon, con el sexo,las drogas y el rock and roll, con su actitud frente a la muerte ("I'll sleep when I'm dead") y, sobre todo, con su actitud ante la vida.

En 2003, mientras su enfermedad acababa con él, Zevon aceptó participar en el último "Late Night show with David Letterman" de su existencia. David y él se conocían desde los setenta hasta el punto de que, en las ausencias de Paul Shaffer, el propio Zevon conducía la banda del programa.

Letterman: Do you know something more about life and death now?
Zevon: Yes. Enjoy every sandwich.

Antes de terminar el programa, Warren cantó "Roland the Headless Thomson Gunner", una canción que se cierra con "The eternal Thompson gunner, still wandering through the night/ Now it's ten years later but he still keeps up the fight". Warren Zevon, hostia, it's my brother.
